Rebecca Floyd : “ Sheena was a rescue that I saw online and fell in love with at a meet and greet . Two years later , Roxie came to our house as a possible foster . The same rescue as Sheena . Our rescuer left knowing that we already adopted Roxie . Fluffy is a calico cat that came to us because a friend ’ s mother passed away and her cats needed new homes . Sherman is a Siamese that we got just because I always wanted one .”
DeAnn Davis Cross : “ My beagle came to my mom ’ s , and she advertised [ a ] lost dog and no one claimed it , and I couldn ’ t stand the thought of him going to the pound because he was an older dog . It ’ s been 3 years since I rescue him . My Maltese and Schnauzer mix I adopted him through the Humane Society when he was a pup and it ’ s been a year since I got him .”
Maria J . Pyles : “ A friend put on FB that she had a part Havanese-Jack Russell or HavaJack pups to sell . I ’ m Cuban , and a Havanese sounded good to me . We were ready for another pet since we had put our Bandit down 7 years before . We met her at Meece Middle parking lot and fell in love .”
LaTasha Martin : “ I met Luna through a lady on Facebook . She is a shorkie . Looked like she never been groomed before . She was very shy and timid . She nervous peed a lot . She is such a happy cheerful dog now . She is loved .”
Jaime Renee Ridner : “ My Yorkie Moose we got from my husband ’ s coworker . My chorkie Brownie my husband bought from someone . Our chihuahua Piper my daughter found on the side of the road and no one claimed her . mAnd our husky Thor my husband got from an old classmate .”
Casi Catron : “ I work at the detention center and I met my cat Penny my first day of work . She was the jail cat who lived on the back dock . She was happy and content living there . But when it got cold on Christmas Eve the nurse brought her into her office to keep warm . I sat with her off and on all day loving on her and when I was getting ready to go home for the night I said “ Do you want to go home with me ?” This sweet baby put her paw on my leg , looked up at me and meowed . The nurse and I took that as a yes . She went from jail cat to mama ’ s spoiled baby .”
Mia Beth Gregory : “ I have a jail kitty , too . The Jailer loves animals . He brought a stray tuxedo kitten to the jail . The deputies took him around the cells for pets and lovings . He was in the front office over a weekend , I was working . I took him home and never brought him back . He is now my Brady . I work at the Pulaski County Detention Center with Casi Catron . Two rescued kitties , two deputies , one awesome Jailer .”
Bernice Gilmore : “ Mine came from owners who passed . They deserved to have a good home .”
Lisa Preston : “ My daughter found my cat under a house . She was very tiny and [ she ] brought her home to me . We have had her for 5 years now . Love her to pieces .”
Ramona Lee : “ My Sassy was a Christmas gift after losing my precious Gabrielle . I had Gabby for over 17 years .”
Melanie Jackson : “ I met Klaus when I visited the Pulaski County Animal Shelter . I went in to just look , and when I left , I adopted my handsome boy .”
Tallyn Cornett : “ A kitten was following and meowing at my husband in the garage . He said we had to take the kitten in to give it a chance . 1 1 / 2 years later and the rest is history .”
Lori Witt Kahle : “ I ’ m a sucker for dachshunds . I met our first one at Walmart parking lot , and the other two I found on social media . I ’ m sure all of these were from puppy mills , which I hate , but I feel I am rescuing them from terrible situations . I do not condone puppy mills . I just love how our dogs have their own personalities .”
Sherry Harris : “ Inherited from my father .”
Jadyn Kramp : “ Someone found a black cat on the side of the road and took him in . They brought him to work the next day to see if anyone wanted him and my husband held him and he finally stopped meowing . He ended up coming home with us that night . We saw a picture of our other kitty on Facebook . No one was going to get him , so we went and picked him up the day we came home from vacation .”
Crystal McKnight Cox : “ I thought Tiny was a dead squirrel in the road . I slowed down and moved over as I passed to make sure ... turns out it was the smallest little terrified kitten . I tried to find her original home , but no one claimed her , so we kept her .”
Mitzi Bell : “ My dog Sunny I met on Facebook . The local animal shelter had him on “ death row ” on their Facebook page . Scotty , my husband said to not bring another dog home . We had previously lost one . I immediately went to the shelter and saw how friendly and loving he was . I adopted him right then . He ’ s been the best dog I have ever had . Scotty has since claimed him for his , because they bonded so quickly . He won both of us over !”
Ashley Meadows : “ My partner was working at a fruit stand on South 27 near Sloan ’ s Valley & when she lifted the tarp to open for the day , there was a feisty little puppy seeking refuge under the stand . She drew him out with pork rinds . (& He still loves a good pork rind ) We looked & looked for his ‘ owners ’ & he was never claimed . In that time we started to call him Blue . & He ’ s just been in our home since . That was 8-9 years ago .”
William Scott Bolin : “ Belle was adopted from the animal shelter . She was the only cat there and when we walked in she seemed kinda skittish . They let her out , and she let us hold her and pet on her and she even climbed on our shoulders like a parrot and wanted us to pet her . Belle has been my girl ever since that day .”
Keifer Adkins : “ Booger fell asleep in my arms and from that moment , I knew we were soulmates .”
Linda Price : “ The cats we have left are Smokey and PJ . PJ was born under our neighbor ’ s bushes right before we left for vacation one year . Needless to say , we ended up with her and her mother . We gave her mother away to a nice lady that had lost her cat . PJ is one fat , lazy orange cat . She was an only kitten . Smokey came here one day , and we have no clue how she got here as a small kitten . Of course , she is still here and is one spoiled cat . She is a very active cat also that lets us know when she wants to come in the house . Climbing the doors to try her best to come in the house is what she tries her best to do . They are both very funny in their own way .”
