Monarchs LEAD
Residential Education
Housing & Residence Life ’ s residential student experience is intentionally designed with four core learning outcomes focused on self , interpersonal relationships , inclusion , and academics , which serve as the foundation for student programs and services . Students are supported as members of the residential community and encouraged to learn and grow as Monarchs .
Monarchs LEAD helps students develop leadership competencies from their first year through graduation . Students participate in leadership education sessions , perform service , mentor others , and work with a mentor . The Monarchs LEAD Program utilizes the social change model of leadership and examines the individual , the group , and the community . Over 100 students participated in Monarchs LEAD in 2021-2022 . One participant commented on their experience as a mentor : “ I can say that mentoring is an amazing process where you help someone grow but where you also learn great skills for your future job .”
Articulating Career Skill Learning
Recreation & Wellness developed an Employee Learning Objective Matrix , which uses the National Association for College & Employers ’ competencies from the Career Readiness Framework and updated student employee job descriptions to make it easier for students to identify transferable skills they learn on their job and include on their resume . This initiative helps student employees better articulate their learning and campus job experience to their future employer .
