Diversity Matters
The Diversity Institute is a cultural learning lab that provides students interactive learning opportunities to expand their knowledge , enhance self-awareness of social , cultural , and political factors that influence perceptions of differences ( diversity ), inclusion , and equity , and develop skills to live , lead and thrive in a global community . Students participate in semester long sessions that include topics that range from pop culture ‘ s impact on LGBTQ + culture and identity , free speech , social class , gaming culture and inclusion , and communication across cultures . They also receive a diversity toolkit to address racism , sexism , homophobia , nationalism , ableism , and religious / belief discrimination .
DiversABILITY
DiversABILITY is an interactive allyship training program offered to further social justice and inclusivity for people who experience disability . Developed and presented by the Office of Educational Accessibility and the Office of Intercultural Relations , DiversABILITY is available to students , faculty , and staff . Participants learn and engage in dialogue about the history of the disability movement , the Americans with Disabilities Act , the social and physical barriers for those having a disability and how to be an ally and create a more inclusive environment at ODU and in the wider community for those who have a disability .
Green Zone Training
Hosted by the Military Connection Center , the ODU Green Zone program supports military students on campus by providing faculty , staff , and students an understanding of the military experience to facilitate and develop a supportive campus community for veterans , service members , and their families .
