Seekonk Saturday Night June 30 Recap with Kyle Souza
Our NASCAR Saturday night season has surely had plenty of action this season, but Mother Nature has won more races than anyone else. Saturday, the sun was shining, it was extremely hot outside, and the drivers found themselves in the middle of a fight for glory.
In the Tomassi Law Associates Pro Stock Power 5 race, David Darling was finally able to breakthrough into Victory Lane. Although Darling was the dominant car last season, the first two races in 2018 saw him come up just short while Dylan Estrella and Bobby Pelland grabbed their first career wins. On Saturday, Darling rolled to the lead diving three-wide under Fred Astle and Ryan Vanasse and he never looked back. Darling has been quick again this season, but the rest of the field is closing in. The remainder of the races should put Darling’s car to the test, and we should see some different winners.
In the 50-lap Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series feature for the Late Models, Ryan Kuhn found himself out front, spitting water out the side for the final five laps. With the car overheating, Kuhn had no choice but to try to make it right to the end while spitting the water out of his No. 72 Everett's Auto Parts machine. Luckily for him, he did, and it looks like there was no damage to the motor because of it. Kuhn picked up the second Late Model Triple Crown, while the story of this one could be Vinny Arrenegado, who finished second again. Vinny is going to be a major threat for the championship this season.
The Sports Truck feature saw another familiar face return for the first time in 2018 and roll right into Victory Lane. Driving his old truck, Rob Murphy took down the win, holding off Bobby Tripp over the final laps to carry the checkered flag. Mike Duarte, who was racing for his father who wasn’t there and in a hospital bed after an injury last week, finished third. The Sports Trucks drivers knew when Murphy returned, he was going to be fast. Rob will finish his modified effort on Tuesday as part of the Open Wheel Wednesday conclusion as well.
The only other feature of the night on Saturday was the second of three rounds of the Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series for the Sportsman. Kyle Casper started on the pole, and he never looked back en route to his first career win in the Sportsman class. Kyle becomes one of few drivers to win in all four NASCAR Saturday night divisions over the course of the last two decades.
Next Saturday night, the race cars stay in the shop for a week off, and the Independence Day Thrill Show will take place with some of the best fireworks in New England. Don’t miss it — and for the drivers and teams — enjoy your week off with family and friends.
