After a two week struggle with a brand new Dale Shaw car, David Darling had an issue last week and was forced to bring out the backup car on Saturday night in the Pro Stock division. Usually when I say that, it means that it’s a bad thing — but not this time for Darling. The Bristol Toyota Pro Stock rolled onto the track and was much faster than what they had in the past few weeks and it ended up driving right into victory lane.
Congrats to all the guys on that No. 52 Pro Stock, they were on rails Saturday night and easily captured the checkered flag. Behind Darling though was Bobby Pelland III in second spot at the checkers — that is another interesting story. Pelland has been running extremely well so far in 2016 after struggling for much of last year with the handling on his No. 12 A&A Auto Parts ride. Those guys have got their game on so far. So does Tom Scully Jr., who finished fifth — his third straight top-five run.
We also kicked off the season for the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends on Saturday, with Jake “The Jet” Johnson taking the checkered flag after a wild final circuit around the 1/3 mile. When they took the white flag it was T.J. Thompson and Nick Lascuola going side-by-side, with Lascuola having the edge off turn two.
But when they dove down into turn three, contact was made, and Lascuola went spinning to the inside off turn four and Thompson got sideways. With that, Johnson came splitting through the middle of his challengers and captured the win in amazing fashion. Congrats to the “Jet”, who is expected to be up front all season long.
Tommy Adams grabbed his second Street Stock win of the season Saturday, a much deserved checkered flag. Adams scored a win last season and this season has had a fast car since they unloaded back at the open practice session. Adams ended up sliding by Scott Serydynski late in the race and coming around to the win in the 25 lap feature event. What a tough break for Serydynski once again though.
He has come close to winning so many times this season and always seems to end up in the rear of the field when the checkered flag falls. He has one of the fastest, if not the fastest car in the division and it’s a shame he has had some terrible luck. Hopefully his luck turns around next week and he can drive into Everett’s Auto Parts victory lane.
In the 25 lap Sports Truck feature, Mike Cavallaro took the checkered for the second time this year. He passed John Paiva on a late race restart and drove away into the night sky and right into Everett’s victory lane. Mike is one of those guys who has been around a long time and won multiple championships, so he knows how to setup the truck. That is becoming more and more important with all the competition in the division this season.
This week, we go back racing with round one of the Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series for the Sports Truck division. Thanks to Phil and the gang at Phil’s Propane for once again sponsoring a three race series with double points on the line in each one. We will also celebrate Memorial Day Seekonk style with a thrill show. There is a new start time this year though — take note that it is 2 p.m. instead of 5 p.m.
Also, don’t forget the Fast Friday series goes green on June 3, with the SYRA, Sport 4, Pure Stocks and Nick’s Pit Stop Legends.
