This past Saturday night, the Modified Touring Series invaded the Action Track of the East for the inaugural 125 lap main event. During the feature, Tommy Barrett put on one of the most dominant performances we have seen around the third-mile in years. Barrett got out front early in the feature and never looked back, holding off multiple challenges in route to victory behind the wheel of his No. 9.
The victory wasn’t the first at Seekonk for Barrett. He has scored a win before in a modified around the third-mile but this time, it was impressive. Barrett was cutting through lapped traffic easily and still pulling away from his challengers even though he was stuck on the outside groove. The driver of the No. 9 put on a show Saturday night for the fans and so did the entire MTS series. Props to Gary Knight and his team for putting on a professional show that included some top modified talent.
In our regular NASCAR Whelen All American Series action, a thrilling Pro Stock feature headlined the night. Up front, it was Kenny Spencer showing the way looking for his first win with a new number this season. Spencer was dominating until Ryan Vanasse and Tom Scully Jr. cut through traffic and came right to his bumper in the final 10 laps of the race.
With 5 to go, Vanasse was trying everything to slide by him and he finally was able to make the move he needed to make. With four laps to go, Vanasse got around Spencer and took down his first victory of the season behind the wheel of the Ocean State Oil No. 11. Ryan has been fast right off the truck since opening day and this weekend, he was finally able to seal the deal. Spencer finished second with Tom Scully Jr. in third, followed by Fred Astle and Kyle Casper, who rounded out the top five.
In the Sports Truck feature, Mike Duarte put on an impressive performance on the outside lane, passing leader Mike Cavallaro early on and never looking back. Duarte had a motor fail on him a couple of weeks ago and this was redemption of sorts for the Somerset, Mass. driver. In the final few laps of the race, a thrilling battle for second ended with Lenny Guy coming out on top. Guy had struggled early in the season but has found the handles on his No. 77. A late charge by Mike Lopes saw him third, John Robidoux finished fourth with last week’s winner Barry Shaw rounding out the top-five.
The 30 lap Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series feature for the Sportsman class saw a wild battle to the finish with Sparky Arsenault coming out on top. Sparky started on the pole in the 30 lap feature race and held off challenges from multiple drivers throughout the race. In the end, Tommy Adams finished second, but technical inspection haunted some other drivers that finished behind him in the top five.
Next Saturday night, we have our first Pit Party of the season on the track before the race gets underway. Come down and meet and great with your favorite drivers! On the track, the Pro Stocks will compete in the Brad Scott Memorial 75 lap Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series first race. That feature should bring the cars to the front that handle the best.
