LASCUOLA TAKES WIN IN HEAVILY CONTESTED LEGENDS FEATURE

Nick Lascuola was back to his winning ways, but couldn’t find a way to make it look as easy as he has in the past. This evening, he had a real charger in Brandon Martinez who latched onto his bumper and they whipsawed the lead for much of the race.

Lascuola was in the lead on lap one, coming from a fourth place start to the lead in a third of a mile. Meanwhile, “Batman” Martinez springboarded up from fourteenth and was behind Lascuola two laps later. And there began a duel of high intensity where neither was going to budge in their quest for the win.Third lap in, and add Josh Parsons moving into third for most of the duration.

It took five tries to get past lap two, with spins and collisions stopping the action, hence the movement of cars deep in the pack toward the front early on. Finally, the field was away from the lap two restart and Lascuola was away like a shot while Martinez leapt into second.

By lap 6, Martinez was on Lascuola’s bumper and they were counting the laps down. There was a six car gap back to Parsons, who was followed by Matt Carpenter, Samuel Mayer, Ryan Kuhn, and Braden Langille. By lap eight the leaders were beginning to lap cars but the speed hardly dropped.

The field stretched out single file and the passing was down to a minimum.

Lap eleven saw Lascuola manage a two car lead on Martinez and it held there over several laps. But Martinez then was back up on Lascuola’s bumper. As they passed under a lapped car, Martinez tried dropping under Lascuola, but the attempt failed. A second attempt put Martinez into the lead with Lascuola on his outside. Lascuola also attempted to drop underneath but was rebuffed.

Martinez went out to a one-car lead and Lascuola showed he was on a mission, searching every avenue of access he could find. Behind them, Samuel Mayer was trying to pass under Carpenter but was held off.

Lap 19 saw Lascuola dive under Martinez, who held him at bay. They were wheel-to-wheel on the following lap. Next time around, Martinez came into turn four hot and was forced wide, giving Lascuola all the opportunity he needed. One more circuit and Lascuola had a two car lead on Martinez. There were three laps remaining, and they battled nose to tail through the checkers with Lascuola taking down the win over Martinez. Carpenter was third, followed by Jake Johnson and Kuhn. Parsons was sixth, followed by Langille, Derek Gluchacki, Brandon Packard, Brandon Hammon, Adam Avedisian and Mayer.
