Seekonk Speedway Race Magazine July 19th - 22nd | Page 60

The Fast Friday series continues to have some of the best racing that we have here at Seekonk Speedway. This past Friday night, we had some intense racing on the track and some thrilling finishes.

In the Bandolero Bandits, there was some drama on the final laps. Nickolas Hovey was leading going into turn one on the final lap, but RJ Marcotte got into his rear bumper and the two drivers went spinning. They were both sent to the rear and that handed Ryan Arieta the race lead and the North Dighton, Mass. driver went on and captured the victory in the 15 lap feature.

In the Bandolero Outlaws, Maddie Harkin finally broke a string of bad luck and scored her first win of the season. Harkin had the dominant car in the race, pulling away from the field en route to the win. Harkin was quick to mention that her confidence in the car helped her ride into glory behind the wheel of the No. 4.

Our Sport 4's had one of the best car counts in recent memory and the race didn't dissapoint. For a while, it looked like Christine Cavallaro would capture her first career win in the 20 lap feature. However, a late restart changed everything. Dave Westgate, a former champion, used the restart to move by Cavallaro and show that he wasn't going to be denied. Westgate went on and won the race, with Cavallaro finishing in second, just short of her first career win.

The Minicup feature saw a scary crash on the final lap as the field was coming to the checkered flag. Kyle Pianka and Tommy Harris got together in turn three and Pianka went flipping into the air and did a few rolls before he came to a halt on his roof. When the safety crew arrived, they flipped the car over and that allowed him to climb out safely. The wreck continued to show the safety of our drivers is the most important thing. As far as the race goes, Zachary Martinez had a dominating performance and was in Victory Lane when it was over. Behind him, Conner Souza and Maddie Harkin rounded out the top three. It was the second podium of the night for Harkin.

The Phil's Propane Triple Crown Series round two for the Pure Stocks saw Doug Benoit show that he is the fastest car in the division. Benoit started well outside the top 10, but easily worked his way through the field and got into the lead in the final stages. Benoit had to deal with Colby Lambert over the final laps and Lambert did not make it easy for him. But, he was able to hang on. Benoit has now been in Victory Lane for both  of the Phil's races this season.

The final feature of the night on Friday was the 25 lap Legend Cars feature and Brandon Martinez proved to be the dominant car. Martinez started deep in the field, but worked his way inside the top 10 before long. However, officials deemed Martinez had jumped one of the starts and he had to settle in behind the rest of the field. But he was not to be denied. He used the outside lane to climb his way right back to the front and he drove the car right into Victory Lane for another win this season.

Next week, we continue our Fast Friday with the final race in the month of July. This season is flying by and the points chasing are starting to heat up. Don’t miss it!
