The second round of the Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series for the Pro Stocks took center stage this Saturday night and there was no surprise when the race ended. Points leader David Darling reached into his pocket and pulled out a dominating performance behind the wheel of the No. 52. Darling started deep in the field, but sliced his way through traffic like butter on sliced bread. It was so easy for him that it looked as though he was on cruise control.
With the win, Darling now has captured both of the Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series races and will be the favorite to win that championship come the final 65 lap race in late August. He continues to open his point lead in the division and without an issue, will be well on his way to the championship this year. At the end of the race, Darling had a huge lead over Tom Scully Jr. and Bobby Pelland, who completed the top three.
The Sportsman class continues to impress the fans and this week’s 30 lap feature saw former champion Paul Lallier return to Victory Lane. Although Lallier has struggled at times this season, he found himself out front and pulling away when the checkered flag came out in the Propane Plus Power 5 race for the division. Coming up just short of the win was Scott Serydynski Sr., who finished second. Behind him, Chad Baxter, who won his first career Sportsman race last Wednesday night, came home third. Corey Fanning and points leader Scott Bruneau rounded out the top five. Bruneau continued a string of strong runs and will continue to open his points lead in the division.
Although our regular Sports Trucks had the night off, the Mr. Rooter New England Truck Series came to Seekonk for a 55 lap race and it was a thrilling battle right down to the checkered flag. Frank Dumicich Jr. grabbed the lead in the final laps with a little bit of contact and went on and captured the victory in the inaugural 55 lap Seekonk race. Dave Koening finished second, while Jordan Churchill came home third. The Trucks division put on a great show in their first appearance to the track and we hope they join us again next season. It was a great race!
In our Everett’s Auto Parts Late Models, Rey Lovelace came inches away from the win. He was at the point of the race for much of the distance, but in the end, Charlie Rose used the outside lane to draw even with him going into turn three on the final lap. When the two drivers came off the final corner, Rose had the edge by a mere few inches over Lovelace. Right behind them, rookie driver Jake Johnson put in a strong run, coming home third. It was one of the more thrilling finishes we have seen in the Late Models over the years.
Next Saturday night, the Rhode Island Shriners are on hands with the annual trike races. We will also have the final race in the Sports Trucks Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series!
