Seeking Happiness: The Making Of May | Page 27

Back in their homeland of England, the girls found the people of Birmingham to be very useful indeed. They were completely astounded at how willingly complete strangers helped them out, despite the fact they received nothing in return for their contributions. Although the city itself exudes greyness, the people were colourful, interesting and animated. The girls enjoyed meeting Dr Gary Wood who had a passion for Korean cuisine and ginger wine and were made to feel very welcome in a care home by Dirk and his dog Buddy, who gave them a lot of information about the wonderful relationships animals have with humans and how this can encourage extremely positive behaviour. Not to mention, the Kids Adventure team at Birmingham City University who helped make a ‘cuddle workshop’ possible and were very interested in what the girls were endeavouring to find out. It seemed like there really is, “no place like home”. Terri and Rhianne are both forever grateful for the time and effort these lovely people gave to them.
