Health during the
Industrial Revolution
(History)
In XIX century Industrial Revolution which
according to Yale University was the period
of time were agriculture, textile, metal, and
transportation industries started to develop
in England. As economy grew better and
better, job opportunities started to appear
and people who lived in rural areas started to
migrate into the cities. Suddenly cities
became overpopulated and consequences
started to appear. Illnesses carried by insects
or animals and airborne viruses started to
kill thousands of people. Some examples of
the viruses were the Anopheles Mosquito,
Lyme disease and the Snail Fever.
Anopheles Mosquito: Tree removals leaves
ponds with standing water and are hit by
more sunlight rays that changes the Ph or
acidity of the pond making it more
vulnerable for growing a mosquito home
atmosphere. These mosquitoes, also called
anopheles mosquitoes, are the effects of
deforestation
in
cities
and
rural
environments. The problem with these
mosquitoes is that they carry malaria, which
is a lethal and very contagious disease that
rapidly increases in a population.
Lyme disease: Is an infectious disease cause
by at least 3 combinations of different
bacteria. It was known that the Lyme disease
was a tick-borne disease, the disease
remains a mystery. It is transmitted to
humans by the bite of infected ticks
belonging to a genus called Ixodes. The
early symptoms are fever, headache, and
fatigue. Rarely the infected person had a
hard rash that was very painful and very
itchy.
Snail fever: This in a disease that is caused
by an increase in snail population. The
causes of these increase in population is
because of dams and other human buildings
that make stand the pond and makes the
snail to search for a new habitat. These
snails carry out a specific type of larvae that
is called Schistosomes which enter inside
the human skin. This fever is highly
contagious and also will attack a whole
population or city as the rate of expansion
increases rapidly.
These diseases happened because thousands
of families moved to the big cities to look
for better job opportunities therefore having
a better quality of life. Disease was created
because cities got crowded and pollution and
other factors led to an increase in unhealthy
factors that will cause disease and other
plagues, that as they were in overcrowded
cities it was easily contagious.
