Exhibit Hall Education Sessions

Exhibit Hall Education Sessions will take place in each presenting company ’ s booth space , where experts will present product or solution information for 15 minutes in the exhibit hall . Meurer Research ( MRI )
LG Water Solutions
Tuesday , February 22 , 3:00 p . m . Booth # 417 Membrane Pretreatment Using MRI Plate Settler Technology
This presentation will consist of a discussion of design , layout and performance of membrane pretreatment applications using MRI inclined plate settlers .
Harn R / O Systems
Tuesday , February 22 , 3:15 p . m . Booth # 200 Design Membrane Systems for Low O & M
The use of membrane water treatment technologies has often been viewed as costly in comparison to conventional water treatment processes . Faced with the perception of membranes as costly treatment options , many owners and engineers are inclined to select membrane equipment on the basis of low capital cost . This presentation will point out several design features that will save O & M cost and therefore provide a lower life-cycle cost in the long run .

Tuesday , February 22 , 3:30 p . m . Booth # 203 Getting the Right Water Quality Information for Pretreatment
Pretreatment of influent water for particulate removal prior to contact with membranes is a common practice . Evaluation and selection of particulate removal technologies is greatly aided by accurate characterization of the composition of the influent water .
Simple water quality analyses often include total suspended solids ( TSS ) counts but omit valuable additional qualifying information such as particle distribution analysis ( PDA ), which is most helpful in evaluating pretreatment options .

Wednesday , February 23 , 9:45 a . m . Booth # 709 Membrane Housing Leak Detection
This presentation will go over the seals and identifying where leaks are coming from , as well as accessing seals to change them out . Special tool demonstrations and how to get vessel unstuck will be given .
Trillium Flow Technologies
Wednesday , February 23 , 10:00 a . m . Booth # 617 Vertical Turbine Pump Selection Considerations
Vertical Turbine Pumps ( VTP ) are used for many membrane pumping applications . This education session will focus on how a VTP pump reacts to the system that surrounds it and why factors other than efficiency should be considered when selecting a VTP .
We will use Computerized Fluid Dynamic modeling to see the impact of operation in a pump ’ s AOR versus POR has on a VTP .
The attendee will leam how not all operating points are equal and see how they can affect the life of a VTP . We will conclude with a discussion of how VTP ’ s are unique in the centrifugal pump industry .
Wednesday , February 23 , 10:15 a . m . Booth # 314 PFAS Removal with TFN Technology
PFAS has been a water treatment challenge since the EPA issued a cross-agency initiative in 2017 to address the environmental threat . While accepted treatment methods for PFAS include activated carbon ( GAC ) and ion exchange ( IX ), they are less effective than reverse osmosis ( RO ) at the removal of short-chain PFAS and no more effective than RO in the removal of long-chain PFAS . This finding makes RO the most effective choice for removing these constituents of emerging concern ( CECs ). Thin-film Nanocomposite ( TFN ) RO membrane technology has been at the forefront for treating potable water sources contaminated with PFAS , GenX , and other CECs . This educational session will look at the progress made using TFN technology as an effective barrier against PFAS at various municipal water sources in the United States .

Thursday , February 24 , 9:45 a . m . Booth # 303 Reducing RO Cleaning Frequency
Membrane cleaning is an expensive and time-consuming procedure , optimization of the cleaning protocol is necessary to ensure cleaning is successful . Insufficient cleaning will lead to more rapid fouling , increasing cleaning frequency . Optimizing a cleaning procedure involves balancing the cleaning chemical selection , cleaning pH , and temperature , based on the specifics for each system . This discussion will investigate the interplay of each of these parameters . A case study will be presented to demonstrate this process . The case study describes the evaluation of the membrane fouling , identifying the cause of the performance decline , and determination of appropriate protocol to recover performance .

Thursday , February 24 , 10:00 a . m . Booth # 704 Activated Filter Media ( AFM ) in RO Pretreatment
This presentation will discuss the advantages of Activated Filter Media-AFM ® . AFM ® is based on green and brown up-cycled container glass , manufactured in state-of-the-art factories . AFM ® contains metal oxide catalysts which generate free hydroxyl radicals leading to a high oxidation potential and thereby preventing bacteria growing on the surface of AFM ® . During the 3-step chemical and heat activation ( sol-gel ) process the AFM ® surface is highly increased by generating a mesoporous surface structure . AFM ® reduces the biological risk from bacteria and parasites and is an effective barrier against Cryptosporidium and giardia . This makes AFM ® far superior to any other filtration media and does not need to be replaced and is “ recharged ” by a simple backwash .
