This is evident in Johnson’s career postseason record. He is 1-4 at Georgia Tech, and
before defeating USC last year, he had a career postseason record of 2-6. Those two
wins were against New Mexico (2004) and Colorado State (2005).
While the Yellow Jackets have been solid against the run, they have been atrocious
against the pass, as they are ranked 74th in the nation with 243.5 passing yards per
game.
Quarterback Bo Wallace has been solid this season, throwing over 3,000 yards, and
should be able to move the ball in the air against the Yellow Jackets. If he has a good
day with his feet and arm, the Rebels will win this game going away.
Deciding factor of the game
If Ole Miss takes care of the football, it will win this game by double digits. However, if
Wallace has a game similar to the Egg
Bowl (four turnovers), the Rebels will not
beat the Yellow Jackets.
He has been better this season but has
fallen into his old ways the last two
games of the season, both defeats for
Ole Miss. The Rebels offense will have
success against Georgia Tech.
They are too balanced and too talented
not to find success on offense, but they
must protect the football. The triple-option
is not designed to play from behind. So a quick, error-free start could end this game
early.
Predictions
If this game was played during the season, I would pick Georgia Tech to win. However,
the Rebels will have a month to prepare for this game and will be able to slow down the
potent Yellow Jackets rushing attack.
Hugh Freeze had the Rebels ready to play in their bowl game last season, and I believe
he will this game as well. Ole Miss has several players with bumps and bruises, and
even with the month off, some will be questionable for the Music City Bowl. It won’t
matter.
Score Prediction: Ole Miss 34, Georgia Tech 24
Stat Prediction: Bo Wallace three total touchdowns.
