In Kevin Sumlin’s third year in the SEC, he has an enormous task of trying to replace both Manziel and wide receiver Mike Evans.
The offense is possibly the better side of the class, considering it is headlined by Allen, Noil, and Iheanacho. All three are guys who could compete for playing time in the fall. By looking at this class, it is obvious that Sumlin wanted to improve the offensive line, with Eluemunor being the crown jewel.
Its no secret that the Aggies defense last year was awful and with this class, Sumlin wanted to start to reverse that trend. Myles Garrett is the star here, with the main focus being on the defensive line. If Texas A&M wants to have a chance to win the West next season, they will need to get 100 percent from all the defensive recruits in this class.
For the offense, Kyle Allen is the key to this class. He is currently competing with the Aggies other two quarterbacks to decide who will start. Allen has great arm strength, and is very careful with the football. Even though he is only a freshman, it is obvious that he was recruited to be the next great quarterback for Aggies.
Defensively, Myles Garrett will have the greatest impact. He is a little light, weighing in at only 240 pounds, but given he has yet to work with an SEC caliber strength coach, he will bulk up by the start of the season. The reason that the Aggies need him to play is that they have no one on the line that can rush the passer, and Garrett is a guy who can get around the edge and make the quarterback pay.
Iheanacho is the pick here, given that he will give the Aggies someone similar to Mike Evans to work with. Iheanacho has great size, and will give whoever is passing the ball a huge target. The biggest aspect that will keep him from getting playing time early in the season is a lack of knowledge of the offensive system. If he cann learn the system quickly, he could easily become a future first rounder.
