Destination Cities in Kitsap Co. Bremerton Home of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton has always been a Navy town. The town was platted in 1891 with the intention that the shipyard and town would grow and prosper together. Battleships damaged in the attack on Pear Harbor were repaired in Bremerton, which is now home to many retired WWII carriers. Since World War II Bremerton has rebuilt its downtown core to include a new marina complex, museums, restaurants, art galleries, condominiums, golf courses, chartered tours, fountains, gardens and many festivals. All just a one-hour scenic ferry cruise from Seattle. Dating back to 1886, the town was originally called Sidney. Early industry centered around logging. Later, dairying, Christmas trees and livestock made up a portion of the farming industry.
