Bremerton
Home of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton has always
been a Navy town. The town was platted in 1891 with the
intention that the shipyard and town would grow and prosper
together. Battleships damaged in the attack on Pear Harbor
were repaired in Bremerton, which is now home to many retired WWII carriers. Since World War II Bremerton has rebuilt
its downtown core to include a new marina complex, museums, restaurants, art galleries, condominiums, golf courses,
chartered tours, fountains, gardens and many festivals. All just
a one-hour scenic ferry cruise from Seattle.

Port Orchard is the Kitsap County seat as well as the first
town to be platted and incorporated in the County. Dating
back to 1886, the town was originally called Sidney. Early
industry centered around logging. Later, dairying, Christmas trees and livestock made up a portion of the farming
industry. Port Orchard’s waterside location is an important
commercial port, active marina and a popular tourist stop
where visitors can ride one of the last two mosquito fleet
vessels: the 1917 Carlisle II.

“Little Norway” reflects the area’s first European settlers,
the Norwegian farmers and fishermen who arrived between
1880 and 1920. Early residents intended to name the town
Paulsbo (Paul’s Place) but a mistake by postal authorities
resulted in Poulsbo. This city on the shores of Liberty Bay
boasts an architectural life-style that embraces Norway.
