In early 2009 perspectives looked rather bleak for the Sietas Group, Germany’s eldest shipbuilding venture with
roots dating back to 1635: Heavy losses had been generated in 2007 and 2008, the order book was diminishing
rapidly, and the yard had obviously approached new markets beyond the fiercely competitive container ship
building too slowly.
Today, only one and a half years later, the situation is quite different: Sietas has dynamically entered the
special-purpose vessels segment, a number of new or
