Turku is one of the most important cities of Finnish shipbuilding, and the well-known enterprises DeltaMarin, Elomatic, and ILS, as well as the shipping yards of Aker Yards are located there. Curt-Olof Eklund, the managing director of Finnish Bureau Veritas, considers the plan approval office a remarkable step forward for the Finnish marine cluster. “At the moment the planning office consists of three men who speed up the process of project approval on the spot. For example, fluent plan processing lessens the waiting time for placing orders for raw materials in a ship project.” The material deliveries of ship projects are internationally divided into several locations, which gives value to the international network of Bureau Veritas. It enables the expert services related to classification to be found geographically close to the clients’ needs. In Finland, Bureau Veritas is particularly known for classing the Tallink ships. It is an international player, and Aker Yards’ ship yards are its home ground. “This time the production of the sister vessel of Galaxy, classified by Bureau Veritas, will begin at the French yard of Aker Yards, where we are in the middle of the French culture.
