MERIKE sharpens the competitive edge
Good tools for managing network
information of the marine industry
At the moment, there are 34
separate research and development projects, most of them in
private companies, and only few
at the VTT Technical Research Centre of
Finland and Helsinki University of Technology,β said Teppo Virta, the manager of the
technology programme at the end of 2004.
βThe total budget of these development
projects is EUR 26 million, including EUR
12 million in public support. The companies have committed to investing 14 million in the programme, which is a remarkable signal of their R & D enthusiasm. The
programme is open to all Finnish companies and research institutions willing to
improve their operation and products and
increase the competitive edge of the
Finnish marine industry.β

MERIKE, the technology programme of the marine industry
branch has now been running for
over a year, and the experience
shows that the companies are
remarkably willing and interested
in increasing research and development activities. Ending in 2007,
the programme focuses on areas
for developing are the earning
potential of a product and lifecycle support, lowering production
costs and shortening delivery
times in the Finnish marine
industry.
