This is a record-breaking time and proof of the project-management skills of the Finnish shipbuilding industry. It is also an excellent testimonial to the excellence of the Finnish subcontracting sector. First-class modular construction skills and managing a project comprising numerous subcontractors is by no means easy, however. In fact, it is all the result of a long process of learning through practice that has been scientific in its precision. Cer tain nationalities seem to be especially adept at working together. The manager of the Color Fantasy project Olli Jantunen from Aker Finnyards praises the seamless collaboration between Finns and Norwegians. “We worked hard together and both the customer and the shipyards are satisfied.” At Aker Finnyards, Finnish-Norwegian co-operation is what it is all about. Following a merger last year, there is only one major shipbuilder in Finland: Aker Finnyards, led by Yrjö Julin. Norwegian ownership and Finnish ship-building know-how are the constituent elements of Aker Finnyards. It has proved a ver y workable concept. This magazine repor ts on the most important common issues in the marine industry from a Finnish perspective, covering building projects and key expert themes such as marine electrical engineering and pipeline corrosion.
