Like“ Riding the Wind,” it is a multi-media extravaganza featuring an all-star band. Nelson created“ Riding the Wind” with Betty Ferris; the show has been performed every year at the Big Top since its founding in 1986 and has garnered almost cult-like status. Other Nelson / Ferris works include“ 30th Star,”“ Keeper of the Light” and“ Take it to the Lake.”“ This new show is a people’ s history of those who immigrated here, a portrait of daily life, work and play, from the Ojibwa’ s arrival to present day, a song of why we all love it here,” says Nelson. Bending bluegrass, rock and countless other influences that the band cites, Yonder has pioneered a sound of their own. The band finds inspiration in such varied influences as the bluegrass of Del McCoury and Bill Monroe as well as the punk rock of Bad Religion and the Dead Kennedys. This year, with Jeff Austin launching out on his own solo career, the band is composed of Adam Aijala on guitar & vocals, Dave Johnston on banjo & vocals, Ben Kaufmann on bass and vocals with special guests Jake Jolliff on mandolin and Allie Kral on fiddle.
