Welcome to Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua
Big Top Chautauqua was founded in 1986 with a mission of creating a sense of community and a connection to the life and history of the Chequamegon Bay area , the state of Wisconsin , and the Upper Midwest . We are a 501 ( c )( 3 ) not-for-profit organization that boasts over 27 years of producing and presenting “ year-round cultural activities that are both entertaining and educational with emphasis on excellent performances that celebrate history and the environment .” We perform during the summer in a 900-seat all canvas tent at the base of Mt . Ashwabay just south of Bayfield . We also perform on tour throughout the region , and over the airwaves on Tent Show Radio .
Big Top Recognized as Tourism Industry Leader
In March , Big Top was awarded the Arts , Culture and Heritage Award by Governor Walker . The award , sponsored by the Governor ’ s Council on Tourism , recognized Big Top “ for their commitment to excellence , achievements , dedication and leadership that have resulted in a significant impact to Wisconsin ’ s travel and hospitality industry .”
