Reinventing Radio: AN EVENING WITH IRA GLASS
Saturday, August 31, 7:30 PM Tickets: $ 44 /$ 52 /$ 60 / Box Seats $ 75 The creator of the public radio show This American Life talks about his program and how it’ s put together: what makes a compelling story, where they find the amazing stories for their show, how he and his staff are trying to push broadcast journalism to do things it doesn’ t usually do. As part of this, Glass mixes stories from the show, live onstage, combining his narration with pre-taped quotes and music, recreating the sound of the show as the audience watches. LEO KOTTKE Opening Set by Chance
Sunday, Sept. 1, 7:30 PM Tickets: $ 24 /$ 34 /$ 42 / Box Seats $ 57 Leo Kottke is a bona fide“ Guitar God” known for his innovative finger-picking style on 6 and 12-string guitar. For over 40 years, Kottke has been writing and playing music, and touring all over the country. His performances are known as much for his instrumental brilliance as they are for his comic wit and his baritone singing voice. Leo’ s musical style is so intricate that the uninitiated listener will swear that they are hearing more than one guitarist and several instruments playing. But in fact it is one man and one guitar, and 10 lightningpropelled fingers. Chance is the voice / cello duo of Ed Willet and Cheryl Leah – long-time Blue Canvas Orchestra members. Their music is described as“ fresh, alive, and moving” by L. A. Weekly. Sponsored by Roger & Lynn VanVreede
