COMPARING ERAS VIDEO
For my video I decided I wanted to look at era's I felt played a part in todays trends so I chose to look at the 50's, 80's and 90's.
I chose the 50's because I thought that the 'greasers' atyle comes into a lot of trends nowadays, especially with jackets such as the denim, leather and baseball styles that come into a lot of high street stores often, especially with patches on. The 50's was also the birth of the teenager which I thought was quite relevant to our age group. I took inspiration from this by choosing to include a leather jacket and a lot of denim in my looks for this video.
The 80's was because of the colour and vibrancy of the era. I felt that especially with it being the party season, bright colours and metallics are very big on the high street. I also took inspiration from 80's power dressing which I find interesting being a woman as to how women would dress in a similar style to men in order to feel more powerful including jackets with shoulder pads in my looks.
The 90's is probably my favourite era as I feel that there are so many different trends in such a short space of time. People from New York dressed according to what district they came from but giving it a unique twist. I also love how music and fashion in the 90's were directly corralated and how the 90's are responsible for ordinary people accessing high end brands. Another trend was best described as 'Clueless' which included knee high socks, tartan and jumpers over shirts. I think the 90's is the era we as a generation take the most inspiration from and the trends of the 90's are something that will continue to grow and develop over time.
For the video itself, I decided I wanted to compare how the high street uses these eras as inspiration so I went round different high streets and went into different stores, some of which were new to me and took a variety of clips and images of anything I thought was inspired by the eras such as garments, fabrics, accessories and even decor to get the feel of the era accross. I also put together different outfits inspired by the trends and tried them on myself or on a friend so that you can see how they come accross. Enjoy!
