Sea X Row (Interior Major Project) – Nkem Usiade | Page 22
Plans
My design pursues dynamic forms. Ideas
of a glass walkway as a connection to
the seafront and building. By extending
the space I was able to spread circulation
through to the site and connection
to the sea. Translating the forms of rowing
and maintaining ‘rowing’ in the brief
was a choice I felt better represented
Portsmouth and the British seaside.
I found rowing to not be practical for
outdoor play. As I found that rowing is
a group sport, it would need minimum
4 people and is usually done in competitive
strides. I wanted to maintain
a tribute to the club by applying to a
form of play. A VR rowing experience,
visitors will be able to get on a rowing
machine (at varying height), they can
play on their own or sync up in groups.
An augmented reality of the sea will be
seen and they can compete with one
another.
