Sea X Row (Interior Major Project) – Nkem Usiade | Page 19
Re-Design
I felt my previous design was to plain, it didn’t
carry any dynamic forms. The space looked
structured and bland. I did a revamp and started
looking into the forms of rowing. Chicago rowing
club (page 10) used the rhythm of rowing to make
their form, I looked at the curves of the boat and
translated it to my design. The indoor rowing was
big and couldn’t accommodate enough people so
I pursued a more modern function to replace it. A
VR rowing space is a better use of the space and
applies to the strategies of Portsmouth council in
establishing the seaside.
I ripped sheets of paper from a spiral bound book.
Using the cut trims I explored the tapered curve
form of a rowing boat
From my models from colour theory (page) I revisited
the idea of ‘memory’ having wood panels
looking as though they are ‘growing’ or have been
exposed- this also reflects how the existing site is.
