ABOUT SDN 1 MEDANA

In July and August of 2018, the northern regions of the island of Lombok, Indonesia, were struck by several major earthquakes, which caused hundreds of deaths and massive damage to houses and public infrastructure, including more than 600 school buildings. In the follwoing months, the government, various NGOs, and private stakeholders began to rebuild and renovate some schools. Despite this effort, many schools are still trying to function without adequate learning spaces or facilities.

Medana 1 Primary School is one such school. The school is located in the Tanjung Region, North Lombok, and has a population of around 3,000, whose primary income is hospitality or coconut farming. The school had four of its eight classrooms repaired but was left four classrooms short, meaning its 242 students lacked sufficient learning facilities. The Block School classrooms constructed have provided four ready-to-use classrooms, fitted with lights, fans, and power points and fully furnished with desks and chairs, whiteboards, a filing cabinet, and a storage cupboard.
