Team California Taking the Heat to the Virginia Challenge Duals

California – After an extensive and arduous search, team advisor Jim Wells and team head coach Jason Kraft, have found the right wrestlers to take to the Virginia Challenge Duals December 13-14. The Virginia Challenge Duals is one of the toughest dual-meet tournament in the nation for middle school and elementary school wrestlers. Since its inauguration in 1999, the Virginia Challenge has produced many outstanding teams and individuals.

This year, team California will be making the five plus hour flight to Virginia to represent the Golden State and show the nation how tough their youth wrestlers are. From the 45 to 140 pounds, all wrestlers in the California team have state and national experience.

“Most of our wrestlers have either won Reno Worlds or were finalist. Said, head coach Jason Kraft. “Many of our wrestlers also won or were Roller Trinity Award winners and have made the NUWAY dream team in their young careers”.

Last year’s champions of the event was New Jersey Scorpions. New Jersey is a state well known for their great wrestling talent, and has a strong grip at wrestling in all levels of the sport. But team California wants to take the nation by storm and show that they can also compete with the best.

“We hope to go to Virginia and win the event. Said, head coach Jason Kraft. “We want to dissociate ourselves from the stigma that California is a Basketball and Football state. We also produce great wrestlers that have gone on to win world and Olympic titles. It’s a domino effect we hope to continue”.

California has traveled to the East Coast and has competed in the event twice. They placed fifth last year and were runner-ups in 2012. This year’s team is amazingly talented with great individuals that will surprise many people and make a run at the prestigious Virginia Challenge Duals.
