- How were things in Lowlands Fest?
Hi Ricardo, first of all thank you for having considered Mass Murder and to give us the opportunity to
express ourselves and talk about our music! We had the opportunity to par cipate in this fes val and it
was a real pleasure to be able to live this experience, sharing the stage with many valuable band, a stage
on which performed great bands that have made the history of brutal death and the underground scene in
general. I think it's one of the biggest fes vals of the Italian scene has to offer. Excellent organiza on, good
and warm welcome from the fes val's organizers.
A unique experience that every band should do, one of the largest and most important underground
fes val in Italy that keeps the scene alive.
- How born Mass Murder's band?
The project was conceived by me: in a moment of musical stasis due to the freezing of other musical
projects parallel, I felt the need to express myself musically once more. Mass Murder is en rely original,
innova ve and totally different from other project .A er composing all eight tracks of the debut album
Aracnofrenik, I started looking for poten al members to form the band.
- Can you talk about Aracnofrenik?
The album describes the human phobia stems from the vision of insect, from the awareness of their existence,
from their oppressive power that haunts the human mind. All this is related to restlessness and violence that
characterize brutal death metal music. In the same way, these creatures feel a sense of deep disgust against
mankind, repressing and torturing men, physically and, especially, mentally. Far from the recurring spla er and
clearly horror themes, Aracnofrenik probe this side of human fear, takes a different point of view to small
creatures from enormous disturbing power.
- How was the recording and mixing process?
The recordings and edi ng tracks were made by me in my own studio. First of all, I recorded drum pa erns, then
the bass lines, riffs of guitars and finally the vocals. To obtain a maximum sound, grani c and impac ng sound, we
turned to the 16th Cellar Studios Stefano Morabito, who has heard our requests, giving the songs sound power
and the right amount of aggressiveness and clarity of sound.
- What was the response of the fans and the extreme music press?
We have got a good response from the fans, especially from foreign fans, who have always helped to spread
and share our music, fully suppor ng our band. We are very excited and for us it's a great sa sfac on to know
that you have a total support from all over the world!! We are also taking this opportunity to thank those who
believed in us from the start and will con nue to do so.
- What does the tle of the album and what is represented on the cover of the artwork ?
The album tle is actually a term birth from me and from the bassist. Aracnofrenik , rather than a fusion of
words, is the result of distasteful feelings: as already men oned, the abum focuses on human phobia and
disgust felt by arachnids against the human being , thus the term aracno is an obvious reference to our small
and insidious characters , while the term frenik fully expresses the frenzy, the thrill, the revulsion caused by the
movements, the presence and vision of these insects.
The artwork was drawn en rely by my hands, later digi zed. Focusing on the cover of the album, in addi on to
the vic m tortured by arachnids, we see in the foreground this shadowy figure who has a torch in his le hand
and a bunch of spiders in the right. This figure, in fact, is not a real human being, but a mental projec on of the
vic m: it is the subconscious of the vic ms, where lie the deepest fears.
The main detail that encompasses the whole concept of the album and its significance is the beam of light
surrounding the vic m in the background: the flashlight casts on it the silhoue es of small beings, taking
demonic guise, reflec ng then arachnophobia.
On the back of the CD you can see another important detail: a spider instead of the eye of the same hos le and
inhuman figure that we find on the cover. This is because the whole theme and the lyrics are told from the
point of view of the arachnid, the experience of the human phobia from the point of view of the insect, a
percep on of reality completely altered.
- How did you manage to detain a contract with Ro en Cemetery Records? And which is the opinion that
belongs to this label or stamp?
It wasn't hard to sign a contract for Mass Murder because of my past musical experiences, especially those
shared with Necrotorture. The collabora on with Ro en Cemetery Records really it met my expecta ons,
providing excellent print quality, adver sing and distribu on, the la er made with large record labels such as
Amputated Veins Records ( Japan ) and Sevared Records (USA). We are pleased with the results we are ge ng
for our first debut !
- Did you planning to shoot some video in par cular?
We are taking this idea into considera on , but we will turn one in the future , not now.
- Who is the principal composer of the band?
I was involved in the composi on of the songs, while the bassist has collaborated on the edi ng of tracks by adding
bass lines and wri ng whole lyrics.
