THE ANNUAL TORBAY SPLASH-IN underwater photography competition made the most of a window of good weather , with 18 participants vying to take the winning image .
Organised by Torbay BSAC , the oneday competition in June saw a total of 69 images taken around the local coast within the allotted time , with four category titles up for grabs . The standard for the categories – beginner , compact camera , wide-angle and close up / macro – was high , giving competition judge , Peter Rowlands , a tough job .
The four winners , plus the overall Popular Vote winner , were presented at an evening dinner held at the Royal Torbay Yacht Club . This year ’ s Splash-in was sponsored by O ’ three & Teignmouth Dive Centre .

A photo competition for all

THERE ’ S STILL TIME TO ENTER THIS YEAR ’ S BRITISH AND IRISH UNDERWATER Photography Championship ( BIUPC ), which takes place on 3 September .
Open to all underwater photographers , participants have 24 hours to take a snapshot of any coastal or marine environment in and around the UK and Republic of Ireland . Unlike other ‘ splash in ’ type competitions , the BIUPC is not limited to one geographical area , which makes it accessible for all divers to take part .
Organised by the British Society of Underwater Photographers ( BSoUP ) and supported by BSAC , there are four categories in this year ’ s competition - Wide-Angle ; Close-up ; Compact Camera ; and ‘ Human impact on the marine and freshwater environment ’. All entries will also compete for a trophy in memory of one of BSoUP ’ s co-founders , the late Peter Scoones , and the title ‘ British & Irish Underwater Photography Champion ’.
Any BSAC members entering the 2022 competition will also gain access to a special offer of 15 months ’ membership of BSoUP for the price of 12 .
BSoUP chairman Nick Watson , a BSAC diver , said he was looking forward to a high standard of entries this year .
“ Historically we get a unique set of images from BIUPC , and it is a great way to start engaging with other keen and talented people in the Underwater Photographic community .”
