Mark Paisey speaks to some university divers who made good use of their club ’ s partnership with a Cornish centre
“
We
do some amazing things , but you ’ re going to need a diving qualification ” were the words Ottilie Bright and Joanna Coppen-Gardner heard at FalDivers meeting for new members . FalDivers is the Falmouth University branch and has partnered with Harlyn Dive School in Rock . “ I wanted somewhere recommended by someone who had done it before and enjoyed it ,” Ottilie says . “ It had to be worth the money . Harlyn was friendly and accommodating , giving a range of experiences in the pool , quarry and sea . Diving from the RIB was great fun and really added to the course experience . We saw so much marine life , and diving has opened my eyes to what is underwater . Seeing with your own eyes is totally different than via the camera lens . I can see myself becoming addicted to diving .”
Ottilie is off to Costa Rica on a sea turtle conservation project , and will soon be putting her new skills to good use . She has this advice for others considering learning to dive with Harlyn . “ You are training for a qualification , but also getting four days of experience you won ’ t get elsewhere . It ’ s not just a qualification ; it ’ s an adventure .”
“ The dive school came recommended , communication was rapid , dates were flexible and the whole learning experience was quick ,” Joanna says . “ I loved the north coast of Cornwall , so much to see , a great experience for anyone with a love of water .”

Branch + Centre Partnership Scheme explained
Designed to support branches with their training , the model is that new members join your branch , train at the centre , then return to your branch as qualified divers .
