A lion ’ s mane jelly drifts at Ardmore in Waternish
Gill takes the photos – not in need of any excuse to get in the water – while Geraint does the post editing . Originally , the project was to last two years but is now well into its third year and will run on indefinitely . Gill can be found in the water on any calm day . Being based on the island , she checks the weather and tides , then chooses a location . It ’ s as simple as that .
All her photographs are taken while snorkelling , which keeps preparations simple , especially when choosing swim locations . She sticks to the shallows and often swims at low tide .
Over the past two and a half years , Gill has recorded more than 30 different locations and over 450 swims around Skye , with plenty more planned . Her explorations carry her not just around the coast , but also in the peaty rivers and waterfall pools of the island , where she photographs wild salmon returning to lay their eggs . This was one of the most magical and moving experiences to date , witnessing the end of the lifecycle of these magnificent creatures .
