Thongweed layered with water texture, Silver Steps, Cornwall Seaweed and surface reflections, Castle Beach, Cornwall also been making a short film on kelp for one of my modules this term in addition to photography, so it’ s fair to say that I am a little obsessed with it.
“ I always want to express the wonder and beauty of the ocean, as I feel like this is unrivalled in terms of encouraging ocean conservation and an appreciation for the sea. Falmouth truly does have my heart! Silver Steps and Castle Beach [ popular local shore dives ] have been my proving grounds for the past couple of years now, both being just a 20-minute walk from my house.”
While the university provides camera equipment, finding affordable dive kit is a challenge.“ As a student I don’ t have a lot of funds for kit and have managed to get by with renting and snorkelling for the past few years,” Bella says.“ The one luxury I have afforded myself is my Fourth Element
Proteus Semi-dry, which I love more than life itself and genuinely couldn’ t live without, especially in the winter months.”
Fortunately, she has no shortage of equally enthusiastic buddies.“ Most of the friends I have on my course dive as well, even the people I live with! So typically whenever anybody suggests a dive or snorkel, we all drop what we’ re doing and run to the beach!”
