Quicksilver mirage

Divers pause in front of an immense shoal of sardines off the southern coast of Cebu in the central Philippines . The town of Moalboal has long been a popular diving enclave , but one of its dive sites is literally a moveable feast . The sardines range up and down the coast in front of the town , but haven ’ t strayed far since arriving from nearby Pescador Island about 15 years ago . The school is many times larger than this image suggests , and while the fish are sometimes subject to attacks from predatory jacks , grouper and thresher sharks , the shoal remains seemingly undiminished after all this time .
