The two divers attempted to pass through the resurgence but were denied , as at about 15m from the entrance the roof had run in and the water came through a mass of boulders .
They removed some of the boulders by blasting , only to let more slide down to take their place . Nevertheless , to be able to do this and have two divers working together was a sign of the times ; diving was taking its place in caving as a practical technique . At that meeting , several other cavers expressed a desire to dive , and the Cave Diving Group ( CDG ) was born . The group is the oldest amateur diving organisation in the world , and our last 75 years contains many landmark moments in underwater cave exploration .
