My first impressions were that this was a very well made and sturdy lens . The MWL-1 is best suited to a 60mm macro lens on a full-frame DSLR , giving a 150 º field of view . For my cropped-sensor Nikon D500 , a 40mm macro lens is recommended . But using my 60mm lens gave me the additional flexibility of taking a CMC-2 diopter converter [ for supermacro close-ups ] and still gave me a 120-130 ° field of view . This flexible setup yielded crisp images of the same subject from three different perspectives - wide angle , macro and supermacro – and a new question : how did they make this lens so sharp ?
That evening , I headed up the road to Loch Creran and bumped into the divers from the previous night . The following day was spent chatting , watching otters and eagles , and taking photographs of underwater subjects with the different lens combinations – with stunning results .
