While Test Centre’ s source of review equipment primarily comes from established brands, we’ re always keeping an eye open for new kit that may fly under the radar. Perhaps from an individual that has recognised a niche requirement and then come up with their own DIY solution.
One such example is DryFit, a dry glove fitting tool which had its humble beginnings on a social media group several years ago before it was recently refined and perfected by brewery worker Richard Hunt.
Richard, a keen CCR diver who lives a giant stride away from Stoney Cove, had
been using KUBI gloves for many years, but was frustrated when trying to mount thicker-style gloves such as the industrial Showa‘ Smurf’ gloves.
Designed specifically for the excellent KUBI dry-glove system, the DryFit is a boon to divers like myself who have suffered something of an ordeal when trying to pair this type of glove to the KUBI rings. Stretching these thick, lined PVC gloves over the glove ring while also pulling the chunky O-ring into place requires a level of dexterity, strength and patience that is beyond me.
So how does the DryFit work? It’ s a simple, compact and lightweight two-piece combo featuring an open top-hat shaped section onto which the glove ring is slipped over. The second could be described as a carrier ring, with a recess for the thick O-ring which holds the glove in place.
The simple, but crucial part of the mounting system is a break in this O-ring carrier. This allows it to fold in on itself, reducing its diameter so the O-ring is easily
mounted. It’ s then expanded to its full size with very little effort. After positioning the carrier / O-ring into the glove opening, it’ s then slid onto the glove ring using the thumbs, gently pushing the glove material and O-ring itself. It’ s an absolute doddle. Then you remove the fitted glove and ring from the DryFit.
Reach inside the glove and disengage the carrier from its fully-expanded position and remove. From there it’ s just a case of fitting the KUBI retainer and its O-ring, either manually or with a little bit of help from the DryFit tool once again.
The whole process takes about five minutes from start to finish and the DryFit can also be used for KUBI’ s own gloves, thick or thin. Each fitting tool is made to order( just specify the interior dimension of your glove ring) with a choice of colours and engraved personalisation available. NH
