Warwick Uni’ s Cornish treat
THE START OF THE SUMMER SAW Warwick University SAC’ s biggest ever UK club trip, with 25 divers decamping to Porthkerris for five full days’ of diving the Cornish coastline.
The group, which included some divers from Loughborough, enjoyed over 200 collective dives at key Cornish sites, such the wrecks of the Volnay and the Caroni River, Gylly beach and the Manacles. Some members also experienced their first ever RIB dives and all enjoyed some stunning viz and marine life, including octopuses, cuttlefish, cat sharks and plenty of lobsters.

Instructor Foundation Course
AS THE LONG SUMMER DIVE SEASON starts to slow down, your thoughts may now be turning to where your diving is going to take you over the rest of the year. So, if you have ever considered taking that first step towards becoming a BSAC Instructor, then the Instructor Foundation Course( IFC) is the place to start.
Autumn is one of BSAC’ s traditional instructor training seasons, with IFCs scheduled around the regions. And you can now access pre-online learning so you can complete the practical IFC in just one day.

With UK clubs trips usually reserved for a weekend, the chance to spend the week proved a fun way to round off the academic year. Club President Ronan Moore Bethel said it was great to see so many members having a fantastic time.
“ The club took a real hit after Covid but we are now beginning to have enough members and experienced divers to run these kinds of trips, he explained.
“ The trip was organised by our leaving President, Thomas Holdaway and we are very grateful for the work he has done throughout the whole year.”
the IFC introduces you to teaching diving theory as well as practical skills through a combination of classroom and in-pool time. There is no final exam with the IFC, but you’ ll deliver a short classroom lesson( online) and then a mini pool session to your fellow candidates.
Many participants say that not only is the IFC an enjoyable introduction to the fundamentals of BSAC instructing, but you also learn a lot about your own diving skills. As it is run regionally, it is also an excellent way to meet other like-minded divers from your local area, and beyond.
To take the IFC, you need to be a Sports Diver or above and at least 16 years old.
Once you successfully complete the IFC, you will be an Assistant Diving Instructor and able to support your club’ s in-house instructing team. To progress to Open Water Instructor, you will need to be a Dive Leader, or above.

Overseas training

Combining travel with your diver grade training can be the ideal solution if life is getting busy. With BSAC training centres in both short and long-haul destinations, you can include referral training into your holiday, meaning you can still enjoy some downtime with your family or friends.
Club time
Referral training overseas also has many benefits for your club, as it can ease the pressure on its instructors while making a great warm water club trip. Clubs can also use the trip to‘ fast-track’ newer members, opening up the opportunity of diving in the UK sooner when they get back home.
Widen your skills
If you would like to build your diving or snorkelling skills, then many overseas centres also offer BSAC’ s Skill Development Courses. From seamanship to underwater photography, you can hone your skills without detracting from your topside holiday plans.
Something for all the family
If a family member wants to take the plunge, then why not arrange for them to have a try dive on your next overseas holiday? If they are aged 10 or over, they could even complete their first BSAC diver training grade, whether that’ s Discovery Diver or Ocean Diver. And think of all the future diving holidays you can plan as a scuba family!
