Whale shark feeding on baitfish
As we approached the bagan, fins were breaking the surface, as three large whale sharks awaited us. Once in the water, we were surrounded by them, the largest reaching around 8m in length. They were not at all fussed about our presence, focused as they were on feeding at the surface for the fresh tidbits of small fish thrown to them. Alongside the whale sharks, we were also accompanied by a number of bottlenose dolphins speeding between everyone to pick up some of the fish before it was hoovered up by the sharks. It was quite simply one of the most unforgettable dives I’ ve ever done, being surrounded by such graceful animals but also witnessing the interaction between the fishermen and the visiting giants.
