1 hour west of Glasgow

There ’ s “ snow ” reason to stop diving this winter

Jason , skipper at Wreckspeditons explains .
On the west coast of Scotland , all year round diving is most definitely on the table . The massively complex coastline allows for shelter in almost every wind direction , offering diving on reefs , walls and wrecks almost anywhere you go .
A lot of day charters are restricted in the direction they can run but we are blessed to have many options on our doorstep here on the Clyde . There is also the added benefit that if we are in fact blown out , instead of missing out on diving all together , we can point divers in the direction of over 50 shore dives within an hour ’ s drive of us . https :// www . finstrokes . com / dive-map There is always the option of a warm cosy local pub too !
Here on the Clyde , the water temperature doesn ’ t tend to dip below 9 ° C when it comes to the coldest months of February and March , and often holds a decent 11-12 ° C up till the new year . This is much warmer than the likes the North Sea and fresh water quarries .
The winters in these parts also tend to be quite dry and calm which bring good diving conditions and often clean clear waters . There are over 25 shipwrecks and plenty of scenic sites within 30mins from our base , all ranging from 5-50m + meaning there is diving here for all experiences . The close proximity to these sites on our fast and sturdy rhib , the Starfish Enterprise means a minimal transit time in the chilly top-side conditions .
It also gives the divers a perfect opportunity to show off their array of funky dive hats , and some more funky than others !
To help with the cold , we offer divers hot drinks and home baking after their dive to take a bit of the edge off . We then have a lovely warm café to head to at the marina between dives too , what more could you want ? Well how about a hot tub ??
We are currently running our “ Rhibs , Wrecks & Hot tubs ” tours through the winter for groups and individuals with 5 days diving and options for accommodations that include hot tubs ! Just imagine staring up at the starry winter sky enjoying a cool beer / gin in a lush warm hot tub …. sounds awesome doesn ’ t it ??
