We ’ re still looking for a new prize for a Star Letter , so please bear with us for a while longer . It ’ s a difficult time for the diving industry , so sponsorships are a tricky proposition at the moment .

Quality quarry
I THOUGHT I ’ D SHARE SOME DRONE images of a recent trip to Twll Braich quarry , near Caernarfon in Wales . When we arrived , we could have been abroad , greeted by the sight of crystal-clear water
Defib desire at Coventry
HAVING LOOKED AT SOME UK SHORE diving sites and dived some new ones recently as a branch ( with a view to saving the cost of diving from a hard boat ), we have now decided to raise the money to purchase a defibrillator .
One of our members is a defibrillator instructor and some of us have seen the use of this equipment in a real-life situation that proved invaluable to the successful outcome .
These things are not cheap , but the question ‘ what price do you put on a life ?’ was raised at the last committee meeting – it ’ s a no brainer . We regularly train members in the use of our O2 kit and Resus Annie and Basic Life Support techniques , but the and blazing sunshine . Starting our descent , the visibility got progressively worse until it was down to just a few metres .
The water temperature was a chilly 7 ° C at the bottom , and I had a very leaky
additional technology and equipment is out there , at a price .
Having access to a rugby club and bar at no hire fee , we kicked off our fundraising by holding a quiz evening . Teams of five competed over a fun evening , with a break for fish and chips and a superb raffle with some bulging hampers donated by club members .
My team didn ’ t win , but on the plus side we didn ’ t get the wooden spoon either . A great night had by all , and £ 450 went into the defibrillator pot .
To round off August , we invited the Coventry Branch of the RNLI to give a presentation on the work by volunteers who man their vessels to make the sea a safer place for all . Next year will be the 200th anniversary of the RNLI , so lots of fundraising events will be taking place . We raised £ 202 for the RNLI that night , as a thank you . DAVE PLUMB , Coventry BSAC 58 drysuit . Despite the poor viz and cold water , everyone really enjoyed their dives . Afterwards , we rewarded ourselves with some swimming in the shallows and a well-earned BBQ , surrounded by sheep . Big thank you to our Equipment Officer who was unable to dive , but still came along and helped cart our kit to and from the water . A fantastic day out . NICKY BORG , Diving Officer , WAPSAC
Tears before dive time
I ENJOYED READING YO-HAN CHA ’ S article in October ’ s SCUBA about his emergency toolbox . On a dive trip to Barra a few years back , the nose pocket of my mask split and I thought my diving was over for the week . As it was a prescription mask it wasn ’ t just a case of swopping it for a spare , but thankfully one of our group , Sharon , came to the rescue with Tear Aid . It did a magnificent job of keeping the water out of my mask and I went on to enjoy wonderful diving for the rest of the week . It ’ s one item that ’ s always in our toolbox now and I highly recommend it to other divers .
■ In other news , Inverness Sub Aqua Club , branch no 0346 , is 55 this month . In recognition of the 55th anniversary of the club , two longstanding members George Brown and Neil MacInnes have been awarded Lifetime Membership of ISAC . VALERIE STOREY , INVERNESS SAC
