Getting fresh – new inland sites open up
THE OPENING OF TWO NEW INLAND sites has boosted the number of training sites BSAC divers can access all year round .
The Water ’ s Edge at Wenlock Edge in Shropshire and Delphy Pool in Cornwall are now offering sessions for divers , instructors and diving trainees .
Based in a limestone quarry in the heart of Shropshire countryside , diving at the Water ’ s Edge is coordinated by a BSAC Centre , Severntec Diving , which has exclusive use of the 29-acre lake site for their own diver training activities . However , BSAC clubs can now also take advantage of the 35m-deep site if they book a session through Severntec .
Shelving from 1m to 35m , Water ’ s Edge is ideal for diver grade training and , says Severntec owner Kevin Murphy , is also a great site for Skill Development Courses such as BSAC ’ s Buoyancy and Trim workshop .
“ We have been using Water ’ s Edge for six
months now and have exclusive access ,” said Kevin . “ It is also one of the deepest quarries in the UK and so is a welcome addition as a facility for diver training .”
Topside facilities at the Water ’ s Edge are limited – there is a portaloo but no changing facilities or café – but the good underwater visibility has proven popular . The quarry is open Monday to Saturday , 10am – 4pm . Clubs interested in using the Water ’ s Edge must book 48 hours in advance and each session costs £ 25 per person . Each group must have its own Dive Manager for the duration of their session .
