Chelmsford cleans up
CHELMSFORD BSAC TOOK PART IN THE local council’ s annual river clean-up, which we have taken part in for a good number of years with the environmental team“ Love
ALSAGER BSAC IS A LONG established and growing branch currently comprising of 34 fun-loving diving enthusiasts who strive to introduce newcomers to the amazing sport.
We have recently provided try dives to 20 army cadets, who completed their course in Malta, plus 20 scouts, 10 round table members and numerous individuals. We will soon be organizing a three session try-dive event for up to 40 Scouts.
While we have a number of recently qualified additional instructors to provide the try-dives, we struggle to provide enough equipment. To help address this we are running a crowdfunding campaign to acquire the essential equipment. Our goal is to raise £ 7,500, which Sport England will match when we reach the target. Our initiatives include:
■ An evening of entertainment at The Arena Crewe, 1 November with three live

■ A silent auction featuring an apartment in Barbados, valued at £ 1,000, for two people for a week; amazing artwork; a course of driving lessons; BSAC-provided eLearning voucher and many other items. https:// tinyurl. com / 4hfh7etm
Our oldest active member, Eric Pemberton, recently completed a sponsored 100-metre abseil down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth. We are also planning a race night and numerous raffles.
We want our club to grow from strength to strength. As a member for 28 years and Training Officer, I am totally committed to helping in any way possible to encourage the new members to carry on the legacy.
If you can, please donate. https:// tinyurl. com / 2s49nnh6 ELAINE HASSALL, Alsager BSAC
great day, as it gets other water users all together with the local stand-up paddleboarding club and the local authority. Chelmsford City Council is keen to keep the river clean and is totally behind our call to keep the seas clean too. DOM HARVEY, Chelmsford BSAC Social organiser

Worksop’ s gazebo recovery
WORKSOP BSAC SPENT TWO DAYS IN the sun raising awareness about the diving world at a recent Armed Forces Day event. Overall, it was a success, with quite a number of people showing interest. We raised some cash raised from our guessthe-weight of a full cylinder, with a chance to win two try dives in our pool. A good two days was had by all!
Unfortunately, the gazebo did not make it for future events, as the wind got up during the night and moved it about. On Sunday morning we managed to re-erect it. After straightening some poles and masking a couple of joints we were back up and running. Thanks to all who helped out, the members for the loan of some photographs and the organisers for staging the event. KEITH SNELL, Secretary, Worksop BSAC
