Thomas Guy Sub Aqua Club( TGSAC) has recently added three new open water instructors to our training team. We are a sociable, multicultural and active club based on the grounds of Guy’ s Hospital, close to London

Bridge station and the Shard. Many members are healthcare professionals, but far from exclusively. We have pool sessions every Wednesday, often with a visit to the pub afterwards.

The PIE team at Vobster done the Open Water Instructor Course( OWIC) and passed the theory exam, but needed to do the Practical Instructor Exam( PIE) to become OWIs. After a bit of mutual encouragement we decided to enroll on Vobster PIE back in October, resisting the temptation to roll it over to 2026! We also booked on the prep course the day before, as a refresher.
We were able to practise some of the lessons in advance at the pool and refresh our rescue skills; a mini WhatsApp group proved to be useful with sharing information and ideas. We headed down to Somerset on the Friday evening, despite an impending storm, which threatened 50mph winds.
