CLUBFOCUS
Boston ’ s finest look forward to exploring the outer Farne Islands

Members of Boston Sub Aqua Club like to think of themselves as an extended family , welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds to start their journey into the world of scuba diving . The club radiates positivity , despite the effect of the pandemic on face-to-face activities , and is looking forward to a bright future .

Where is Boston Sub Aqua Club based ?
Boston is a market town in Lincolnshire , on the east coast of England , about 20 miles from the well-known coastal resort of Skegness . The area is primarily agricultural and is very flat and open . It has a maritime claim to fame as the original departure point for the Pilgrim Fathers , who eventually settled in the New World .
Who are your members ?
Our diving members are a diverse group of 56 – plus many spouses , partners and children – some of whom travel almost an hour to attend our meetings . Of them , we have an active core of about 25 divers , whose names appear on dive logs on a regular basis . At present there are : five trainees , eight Ocean Divers , 24 Sports Divers , 15 Dive Leaders , three Advanced Divers and a solitary First Class Diver .
Katerina loved diving with the Farne Island seals .
Is membership growing or shrinking ?
The club is experiencing steady growth . We are an all-inclusive family-friendly club , with many adults and juniors of all ages signing up together to learn to dive with us . We have seven youth members , three of whom are Junior Committee Members .
Junior Committee Members , that sounds unusual … what do they do ?
Junior Committee Members help to ensure that the needs and views of the other junior members are represented and met . They have organised Easter raffles and summer BBQs and help new junior members to settle into club life and feel welcome ; they also act as points of contact for their community .
What assets does the club own ?
A very nice 6.5-metre Humber Destroyer , fully kitted-out for UK diving , and the opportunity to use a club member ’ s rigidhulled inflatable boat too . Club dives are a mix of shore , RIB and hard-boat diving ; all of which is open circuit . Members have access to a compressor and a clubhouse .
Do you run regular training courses ?
We start Ocean Diver courses whenever we have new members signing up . Shelteredwater training takes place in a pool at the local leisure centre . Other training is run as soon as we have sufficient numbers . At present , a number are studying for Sports Diver and Dive Leader , and we have one Advanced Diver candidate . Some SDCs are run in house : Practical Rescue Management , Oxygen Administration , Dive Planning and Management , and resuscitation , as well as boat handling training and chart work .
