NORTHERNEXPOSURE
The Svanholm ’ s wheelhouse of 50m . Whilst the mast and funnel have collapsed the wreck remains mostly intact .
The bow is intact on this wreck , but I didn ’ t think it was as interesting as the midships area where the structure of the wheelhouse is mostly open and easy to swim through and nicely covered in anemones and sea squirts . There is also a willow pattern toilet on display .
Following on from that the stern is broken away revealing the cargo of wood still in-situ .
There were a few creatures to see on this dive – a perfectly positioned monkfish , a few ling cod and a king crab , Lithodes maj . On the starboard side of the hull there was a beautiful large anemone , which I think might have been a deeplet sea anemone , Bolocera tuediae .
The Welheim : This 5455-tonne diesel cargo vessel was built in 1939 and during the second world war was used as a supply ship for the German forces in Norway . On 8 November 1944 while on passage from Bergen to Aalesund carrying coal , she was torpedoed by the Norwegian MTB 717 and quickly sank in Brufjorden .
