Soldierfish in a reef crack at Elphinstone
on the scene . This led to much excitement ; at one point a shark bumped my camera ’ s dome port . Things seemed to quieten down once the jacks had fled , but by then we had five sharks milling around , adding to the confusion . Over lunch my buddy showed me footage of a shark inspecting the back of my neck – from a distance of about five or six inches . I had been completely oblivious .
There were no protests when we returned to dive the serene walls of Daedalus , known for their towering coral formations and ‘ Anemone City ’. My buddy found a handsome scorpionfish , while my prize find was a leopard blenny trying to impersonate a fragment of finger coral - find of the week for me .
Elphinstone and home
The third stop in our tour of offshore reefs was Elphinstone . It ’ s much closer to land than the others , so there ’ s usually quite a lot of boat traffic . All the same , it remains a productive site both for shark and reef dives .
