Turtle planet
Seen from below , a pair of mature green turtles , Chelonia mydas , greet each other while surfacing at Bunaken National Park in northern Sulawesi , Indonesia . One of the world ’ s longest established tropical marine parks , Bunaken has provided a refuge for turtles since 1991 . Photographer Saeed Rashid says there seem to be more turtles there each time he returns , despite a regional tradition of collecting turtle eggs . “ On a trip in 2018 I stopped counting them at 32 ,” he says . “ I ’ ve had them climbing over me to reach their favourite spot on the reef .” It is thought the turtles get their colouring from the marine plants that make up the majority of their diet .
