Brian King ’ s original 1980s site drawing . The team used laminated prints of this when diving the site
An exhibition commemorating the Racehorse ran in December last year , featuring artefacts collected by Brian King and other IoM Sub- Aqua Club members in the 1980s . There is also a full online catalogue detailing all the artefacts from the wreck in the MNH collections in the iMuseum ), with a key element of the exhibition being a film of the diving on April
20th , with my own underwater footage , alongside surface filing by James Proudfoot and 3-D imagery by Jon Chamberlain . I was honoured , as Chair of IoM Sub- Aqua Club , to be invited by former Chief Minister Tony Brown to the formal opening of the exhibition . A plaque to commemorate the sinking of the Racehorse ( and in particular the loss of the three Castletown men ) was unveiled at the ceremony , held on 14 December last year .
The final event of the commemorations was a church service on the morning of Sunday 18 December at Malew Church , where the lost sailors and Manxmen are buried . Brian King delivered an excellent reading on the history , there were artefacts on display , we had a tour to see the graves and we remembered those who had lost their lives . It was a perfect end to the week .
