Some marine creatures have an appeal so powerful that they can have a profound effect on our state of mind. Whatever the reason, our instinctive response to dolphins is one of exuberant joy.
There are 40 species of dolphin, all known for their intelligence and complex social dynamics. They usually live in groups that hunt together and communicate via vocalisations and body language. Dolphins range in size from the 50kg Maui’ s dolphin to the 10-tonne orca, the ocean’ s apex predator. Yes,‘ killer whales’ are dolphins too, and there are people who swim with them.
