Having recently acquired the UK distribution rights to the OMS ( Ocean Management Services ) range of products , Beaver Sports wasted no time in sending the Test Centre a selection of products for appraisal .
Established in the early 1990s , OMS have long been a favourite of the technical diving community and have earned a reputation for robust , functional kit that stands up to both challenging conditions and hard use .
The Comfort Harness III is a clever , one-size-fits-all system . It consists of an adjustable webbing harness threaded through a polished stainless steel ( or aluminium ) OMS Backplate , enclosed within a comfortable , padded backpad .
On the rear of the shoulder pads are size markings from XS to XL with half sizes between . It ’ s a relatively easy matter to adjust the 5cm webbing one way or the other to shorten or lengthen as desired .
This webbing threads down a pair of nicely padded shoulder straps and terminates in a large stainless steel ring , where the sternum strap and quick-release stainless steel buckles are located .
There ’ s quite a lot of stainless hardware on this setup ; the backplate , numerous
D-rings and buckles contribute to an overall weight of 6.8kg . Not a travel wing by any means , but that ’ s not its purpose . Threaded onto the waistband webbing is the integrated weight system . The right side has a Velcroaccessed pocket , plus a small zippered section . I stored a compact reel in there with no problem . The left side is purely a vessel for its quick-release weight pouch – I slotted 4kg of lead into each . Both pockets feature a large aluminium D-ring . Held in a fixed position close to the body , the pouches slot in vertically , which makes dumping or handing off to the boat very easy .
Paired with the Comfort Harness is OMS ’ s Deep Ocean 2.0 air cell . Constructed from 1000 denier Cordura and laminated with 1.5mm urethane , the inner bladder is made
